InPoker keeps offering more new tournaments and poker formats to keep all the users entertained, with the recent additions being Spin & Moon, Pump or Dump types of tournaments and the Pot Limit 5 Card Omaha poker format. To make things even more exciting, InPoker always offers many different combinations of the types of tournaments and poker formats, with different structures and prizes — we like to keep things interesting!

With so many different poker formats and types of tournaments available, it can be difficult to choose the best game to play. Today we will explain all the basic concepts you will need to understand about these games.

POKER FORMATS

TEXAS HOLD’EM NL

No Limit Texas Hold’em is one of the most popular variants of the card game of poker. Two cards, known as hole cards, are dealt face down to each player, and then five community cards are dealt face up in three stages. The stages consist of a series of three cards, later an additional single card, and a final card. (Check the hand rankings on the picture below)

POT LIMIT OMAHA

The most played type is Pot Limit Omaha (PLO). The first major difference compared to Hold’em is that each player is dealt exactly four hole cards instead of two or five hole cards in the case of 5-Card Pot Limit Omaha (PLO-5). However, players don’t use all the hole cards to make a hand because they can only use two of them. Also the bets are capped at the pot size, hence the name Pot limit.

SHORT DECK

It is played with a standard 52-card poker deck but ranks 2, 3, 4 and 5 are removed, leaving 36 cards. Each player is dealt two hole cards, then five community cards are dealt face up in three stages, like normal Texas Hold’em. The two major changes in the hand ranks are

1 — Flush beats a Full House

2 — Three of a kind beats a Straight

TOURNAMENT TYPES

REGULAR & FREEROLL

The difference between the Regular and Freeroll tournaments is that freerolls do not require a buy-in fee. In regular pay-to-play tournaments, the prize pool consists of an accumulation of the entry fees minus a “fee” which is retained by the house. In a freeroll the prize pool is provided by the organizer.

TURBO

Turbos are tournaments with a faster-than-usual structure in which blinds and antes increase at a quicker rate than usual and levels are often of shorter duration.

SATELLITES

Satellites are tournaments in which the prizes are not monetary but are tickets to other tournaments. These are usually freeroll or a fraction of the prize of the tournament for which players can qualify.

KNOCKOUT (KO)

Knockout tournaments are action-packed tournaments in which players eliminate their opponents and, for doing so, receive the opponent’s bounty as a prize. We have a Special daily KO with a higher buy-in (20 BUSD) and much higher returns! Moon your buy-in 5x to a 10x eliminating other players!

PROGRESSIVE KNOCKOUT (PKO)

Progressive Knockout tournaments, or PKOs, are knockout tournaments but you receive half of the opponent’s bounty as a prize, while the other half goes towards the player’s own bounty. The thrill in these events is that the bounties are progressive in nature and grow for each player. The more eliminations you make, the more money you win! BUILDER

Builder tournaments are online poker tournaments with no GTD prize pool. Players contribute to the total pot collectively. The buy-ins are higher than other tournaments adding up later on with rebuys and add-ons. There is a pre-defined number of players depending on the tournament, and most of the time it’s 2, 3 or 5 players but it could also be another number. This format is very convenient to get into the leaderboard as the prizes tend to be higher due to higher buy-ins and smaller number of players!

SIT & GO

Sit & Go tournaments (SNGs) are online poker tournaments that start when a preset number of players have signed up. These tournaments do not have a scheduled start time and begin as soon as there are enough people registered at a table. The number of people required for the Sit & Go tournament can be 2 (Heads-up), 6 or 10 players, and the tournament starts as soon as the last player joins the game.

DOUBLE OR NOTHING

Double Or Nothing are 4-max sit & go games which end when half of the players have been eliminated. When the 3rd player is eliminated the game ends and the prize is split 50% between the two winners.

PROGRESSIVE KNOCKOUT (PKO) SIT & GO

A 6-max version of PKO sit & go games, they are so dynamic and full of action that you can’t even blink! All of our previous SNGs have also been improved in structure and have increased our traffic greatly!

SPIN & MOON

Spin & Moon are fast sit & go’s hyper-turbo 3-max where the prize is randomly decided by the spin of the wheel before the start of the game and ranges from x2 to x12000 of your buy-in. PUMP OR DUMP

Pump or Dump tournaments are fast-paced All-In or Fold (AoF) tournaments where players have to choose to either go “All-In” or “Fold” on every single hand, without any other option.
